Farewell Deco Lady,

I am deeply saddened by your sudden departure. Your very last words in writing were about your family and your concerns for them. Although you are gone, you will never be forgotten. I hope I can put in to words what many are feeling right now. You fought a fierce battle like a warrior. You lived life with passion! You were the person that danced like no one was watching, sang like no one was listening and loved like it was your last day. We will all remember your kindness, generosity, courage and selfless love.

Last year Annie and I found a fabulous little vintage "everything" shop in Pittsburgh. She begged to get a dress from the late 60's -early 70's. I really didn't think she would wear it but she did wear it to Homecoming. She also carried my Laurel Burch cat purse that had the same 60's colors. I thought this was very fitting, to honor a fantastic artist that started her unique syle in the 60's. RIP Laurel, you left your beautiful signature on the world with color!

Going through boxes, bags and containers with old jewelry and beads I decided to embellish a wooden framed mirror. I imagine the mirror will weigh a ton but I think it will be awesome.

When the frame is finished, I will write on the mirror with ceramic paint....(top) YOU MIGHT NOT BE THE FAIREST... (BOTTOM) BUT YOU ARE THE HOTTEST !

BIG ONE AND LITTLE ONE........BEFORE!
HE REALLY WAS STARTING TO LOOK LIKE "COUSIN IT."

Big cat, whose name is BIG ONE, really got furry this winter.

Now that the weather is getting warm he was having a hard time with matted fur not to mention shedding.

He went to the groomer today, she is EXCELLENT with animals.

She talked him in to a state of relaxation and gave him the LION cut.

He looks a little crazy but a new cut always does. He loves it!

Little cat HATES him because she doesn't know who he is. He looks and smells different.

She is pacing around like she's in a room full of rocking chairs/ She hisses and growls at him.

He's such a mellow cat he just looks at her like "whatever b****."

I met him at the 3RiverArt Festival in Pittsburgh. I loved his primitive style and use of color. Most of all I loved the 3D effect. It looked like he made a sketch, glued down cotton cord (maybe the weight of venetian blind strings or upholstery cording) also scraps of textured fabric (burlap, felt, etc) and painted layers of paint or maybe just heavy applications of paint. I think there were a lot of the metallic acrylics used that gave the pieces a metal, shimmering glitter look...hey-right up my alley!!!! I (of course) wanted to try this method in my own style of art but never got around to it.

I love learning from other artists. Most artists fear someone copying their style or the entire image and I'm sure it happens. I would never duplicate or copy. I have always looked at pieces and triggered the creative gears to spin....How can I try this with MY art? "My" being the key word.

If anyone has done this kind of art on canvas or if this sparks your creativity gears and you do make a piece of art....I'd love to see it. Leave me a post.

Another piece of altered art.

This is an old charcoal drawing on board that has yellowed.

The writing on back reads;

Either Flora Davis Wollam

or Sister

Della Davis Smith.

This one was a bit more difficult since it was charcoal.

Any (water colors) on the charcoal would make mud.

I used colored pencils, gel pens and acrylic paint.

As you will see, my cat wanted to help. He tried to

walk though the paint a few times and finally did.

After he got yelled at, he hid behind Miss Manny Kin.

He thought I couldn't see him.

First;

I removed the art from the frame, it was stapled on.

The art started to crumble at the corners.

I cleaned and painted the frame first. Spray paint and

then twinkling H20's. When it was dry I sprayed with triple thick.

The art was done with colored pencils first. I had no idea

where I was going with this but I did want her to be

LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS!

She had to be a dragon fly.

Once again, to the person in the art.

I gave you wings and color. I hope this makes you smile!

After all, your relatives not only put you in an antique mall

they forgot your name!

Fly away little dragonfly Lucy in the sky with diamonds!

When you think of FUN and COLOR, does a childhood memory come back?

One of the BEST memories I have was my very first trip to Kennywood Park. I was about three and I thought I was in another land. I remember bits and pieces of the trip on a train. My feet didn't reach the end of the seat and it took forever to get there.

I had (probably a forced) nap on a big fluffy pillow and I was overwhelmed when I woke up. We were THERE!

I remember the noise, the different scents but most of all the COLOR!

I thought the Gypsy Lady Fortune teller in the glass box was alive.

I rode a zebra and have the photo to post later. I remember the teacup ride with my cousins. My cousin Donnie threw up but Donna and I had a blast.

Most of all I remember the fit I took when it was time to leave!

That memory is very VIVID!

WHY did we have to go back to the real world?

AAAhhhh! FUN, FRIENDS and COLOR!

Does it get any better?

That is the spirit of the HLCCA Conference!

It all starts with rubber gloves, lots of BRIGHT colors of fabric dye in squeeze bottles, rubber bands and bleach for clean up. This is quite messy....so if you're not in to "clean-up"....you might want to pass.

I haven't done tie dye in years BUT at one time I had it perfected. I once had a tie-dye room with curtains, slip covers, pillows and permanent blue hands.

Today is VERY foggy and constant rain, no sun in sight! I was amazed to see how bright the shirts looked hanging on the back porch with fog in the background.

Eight year old chairs (Before the spray can got them)

After cleaning the plastic lawn chairs that circle the fire pit I thought they looked pretty faded and sad. They are still in good shape, they just needed COLOR therapy!

I gathered up every can of spray paint in the garage and let them have it!

Not bad. One was especially bad so I wrote all over it with paint pens and made it the HAPPY CHAIR! I'm thinking about doing theme chairs. TIME OUT chair, QUEEN chair, etc.

Any ideas?

I really don't know where this photo is going.

I'm trying the "automatic writing" voo doo that

a good friend recommended. If this is the vibes I'm getting,

I can't envision the finished piece. This photo was printed on

a card stock board (black and white) in 1943.

The colors were air brushed inks and they were

a MESS to clean off the board. A little fabric softener in

water worked, brushing and dabbing with Qtips and paper towels.

I believe they are ready to party with their new make over.

She had a boob job and he got a new doo.

I'm really excited about this new project. I bought a vintage photo in frame at the Antique Mall to try out photo altering. I always look at the "people" and wonder what story they had. Who were they, how did their lives turn out. What wonderful things or tragedies did they experience.....waaaaay too up close and personal.
I feel a little bad about altering it but I read a quote...."nothing is so wonderful that it can't be changed." To ease my guilt I will have to think, Hey their own family put this photo in a junk shop!
Me: guilt-free!
Not totally guilt free. Reading the back of the photo frame makes me a little sad.
Did he come back? I think her spirit will LOVE being a Glitter Diva and possibly a walk on the wild side as a super freak redhead!

Tonight I was looking at the many cards I received this Christmas

and felt so lucky as well as a tad guilty. I honestly did not "make" time to send

out cards! I do apologize to all. We did manage to make Christmas extra special for

some little ones that were in need. It was a real blessing to be able to do that.

I heard "through the grapevine" the packages were opened and the gifts

were kissed!!!!!! I am so grateful for everything that has happened in 2008. Things have changed

for me beyond my wildest dreams. Trust me, I do have some pretty wild dreams!

I am so thankful to have so many supportive wonderful friends, especiually my

glitter sisters. I may not always be there for you with my excessive wandering

away...........but..........you all have a special place in my heart. I am also

grateful for the friends I've made in the dish world, what an awesome fun

loving group of people that share a passion!

I am attaching a piece of art that I made in honor of their wonderful

Wow, it's that time of year again!

This morning I took about 5 different shots before I caught the perfect leaf in mid flight.

Why would I do that when I could have just photoshopped one in?

Because I know I did it, I felt it, caught it and I was there
to experience
THE MOMENT.
A small miracle.

It was an exceptionally quiet and still morning. I scanned the yard and there was no sign of wind. The only movement was leaves dropping off the branches quietly and floating down in a spinning free fall. They were dropping seconds apart as if they were taking turns. As beautiful as it was, it also seemed a little sad to see her loose her awesome orange leaves.

CHANGE, to survive....every living thing has to embrace it.

You might know where I'm going with this.

Always take the time to look closely for miracles. They are all around you!

You know how I love dragonflys and their meaning. Creatures of change!

I am slowly watching a miracle unfold with my daughter.

Without going into details, she has not only been embracing change but she has been shining her light on others that are living in a dark place.

She is my dragonfly girl!

New IDEA

I bought a few old barn window frames at Goodwill. They are double paned.

I attached my art board to the BACK piece of glass (image on the glass facing inward)

Flipped it over and painted the words "ON THE GLASS" of the other side.

There is about 2" space between the two pieces of glass and the whole thing looks 3-D.

You are looking down in to the actual art from the front.

By the way, the old frames were CHEAP!

Since the photo was taken, I've added textured glass beads on the glass. It dried clear but foggy. I also added RED glitter glue around the glass edge. Since there is so much reflection with the glass and glitter it's a little difficult to get a good photo. I will try again.

added a few lines. I wish I could remember where I found it so

I could give credit for the photography but I can't. I do know

that when I saw it I was amazed at the beauty.

Hi! My name is Jambi (pronounced Jombie) like Jambi the Genie from

PeeWee's Playhouse! I'm a pretty kitty and very well behaved. I jumped on

the dining room table and it was just waxed......I slid to the edge and fell overboard.

I haven't been on the table since. I already have a favorite WOUBBEE (blanket) and I

won't let anyone else use it. I think I might rule the roost here!

A story from an era but the music, dance and romance are timeless!

It also made me think of my neighborhood girlfriends swinging our prom dresses around singing..."I feel pretty, oh so pretty..."

That's when prom dresses were POOFY and glamorama. We all had similar dresses in different pastels...my dad said we looked "peachy!"

I liked that!

Isn't it funny how you can remember insignificant things but forget important ones? Maybe the little things are the important ones.

I've heard, the flapping of a butterfly's wings can cause a hurricane on the other side of the world.

Meaning; be careful of the small things you say and do, they may seem insignificant to you but can be powerful enough to alter someone else's life!

....and you would be clueless!

Ways to find happiness because it’s really easy to forget!
Look for happiness in the small things. On my way to work I might stop and photograph a bird on a mailbox. (Camera always in my purse!)
Feel gratitude for everything you already have in your life, and for the people you care about and those who care about you.
Spend some time every day in quiet time to think about the direction your life is taking.
Keep a journal of your thoughts and feelings so that you can put into words the way you are feeling each day. I look back a year in my journal and reflect on how I handled different situations and try to give myself a pat on the back or a kick in the pants! Either way, it’s a learning experience.
Ask others for advice on various aspects of your life. People like to feel they are needed and their opinions are valued.
Realize that money is abundant in our world. If you want or need more of it, look for ways to add more value to other people’s lives.
Reach out to people who have been there for you in the past. Call them just to say hello, instead of only calling them when you want or need something from them. Ask if there is anything you can do for them.
Get rid of grudges! Holding a grudge is like drinking poison and expecting the enemy to die! Grudges make YOU sick. Is it really worth it?

What more can I say? How can anyone wake up to a jam packed table of wonderful colors, the sun shining, birds singing, music playing, the aroma of fresh brewed coffee and totally "getting it".....HAVE A BAD DAY?

YOU CAN'T!!!!!

This REALLY is "life in session." I love that line that Loraine used to describe my art & post on the Glitter Sister blog. I hope someone reading this post today will NEED to hear this.

We have all been given certain "gifts" and to not use them and share is an act of ungratefulness.

I've been guilty of that many times. I had lots of excuses; my life is a mess, I can't focus, I'm too tired, I'm feeling overwhelmed and grouchy, I'm depressed, I don't feel loved, I have more important things to do, MY COUCH NEEDS HELD DOWN....I could fill the page with the things that I've used.

Bad excuses are better than none.

If you can't take the time to use your gift, think about this....I know plenty of people that would LOVE to have the ability to put color down "effortlessly." I've heard many times over..."I'd give anything to have talent like yours." I'm sure, if you are here...you ARE a like minded creative being and you've heard the same things.
Recently I was headed into one of my funks and had someone RUDELY shake me off my ..."poor me pedestal"! How dare this person force me to be creative when I'm not in the mood!
Here was the plan.
I would make a lame effort at a piece of art to prove, the timing is wrong.
I will call it "Forced" art.

The sketches looked bad, the composition had no thought, no color, no life and most of all no love.

Here's where it all backfired in my face.

While I was doing "pretend" sketches.....I saw something TINY on paper that opened up my creative thinking. It was a minute like the one...when your head stops throbbing after a hangover!

You know...the awwwwe feeling of "I'm lovin' this feeling of being alive! Happy days are here again."...(with the usual...I'm never drinking again..LOL)

Dark clouds lifted, the fog dissappeared, I felt energy in my blood and I realized I was "healing" my state of mind. It's happened before but

WHY CAN'T WE REMEMBER THAT WE HAVE THIS "MIRACLE" IN OUR POSSESSION?
IF BY CHANCE.....(and fate doesn't fly with me)....start again redhead...if God sent you to this page...and you are feeling down and out.....do this..
close your eyes and breathe....(for real) do it now
take a few deep breathes and realize what the air is doing for your body. The air is life force and energy. Feel it go in and out of your body..

FEEL THE ENERGY AND FEEL THE LOVE
Your life is IN SESSION right now.
Get your ass in gear.....snap out of your funk....

MY NEW ART

Dedicated to all of my close friends that have been thrown into change.

I've been so busy for months that I honestly forgot my password to blog!

I've missed my glitter sister connection with all of the wonderful ideas and inspiration. You might say I'm in a transition of change myself.

It's not always a comfortable experience. It's so easy to stay safely inside the box. FEAR can keep you within boundaries. Try to think about this;

Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there!

Change is a given for everyone, like it or not. If you know a change is coming, try to get ready for it and be open to accept. It may feel "ouchey" in your mind or on your heart but just do it! Talk it over with your heart and get ready for bigger and better.

ALWAYS PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR HEART

AND YOU'LL NEVER HAVE REGRETS!

I HAVE MADE A LOT OF MISTAKES

BUT I HAVE NO REGRETS.

I believe that someday it will all make sense!

I'm sure there are a lot of dead water beetles at the bottom of the pond that were too scared to CHANGE!

The Dragonfly

Once, in a little pond, in the muddy water under the lily pads,there lived a little water beetle in a community of waterbeetles. They lived a simple and comfortable life in the pond with few disturbances and interruptions. Once in a while, sadness would come to the community when one of their fellow beetles would climb the stem of a lily pad and would never be seen again. They knew when this happened; their friend was dead, gone forever.Then, one day, one little water beetle felt an irresistible urgeto climb up that stem. However, he was determined that he would not leave forever. He would come back and tell his friends what he had found at the top.When he reached the top and climbed out of the water onto the surface of the lily pad, he was so tired, and the sun felt so warm, that he decided he must take a nap. As he slept, his body changed and when he woke up, he had turned into a beautiful blue-tailed dragonfly with broad wings and a slender body designed for flying.So, fly he did! And, as he soared he saw the beauty of a whole new world and a far superior way of life to what he had never known existed.Then he remembered his beetle friends and how they were thinking by now he was dead. He wanted to go back to tell them, and explain to them that he was now more alive than he had ever been before. His life had been fulfilled rather than ended. But, his new body would not go down into the water. He could not get back to tell his friends the good news. Then he understood that their time would come, when they, too, would know what he now knew. So, he raised his wings and flew off into his joyous new life!

I have a lot of great things to talk about today. I had a very unusual experience last night with something you might consider magical, super natural or a blessing. I have been "deliberately" PAYING attention to details lately in my everyday life. I bought a few new magazines to read myself to sleep, I keep them on the bed. About three times the same magazine fell out of bed and when I picked it up the same page would appear. I finally PAID attention and examined the article. Glamour magazine, page 212 REAL- LIFE DRAMA. (like I need more!)
"My Dad the drug lord" is the most amazing story written by Francine Lucas-Sinclair. It wasn't long before I was in tears. On Nov. 2nd Denzel Washington and Russel Crow will star in the new movie "American Gangster." Francine is the real life daughter of Frank Lucas, the drug lord. She is a beautiful woman with a wonderful dream. If you are interested, go to the link below and read her "about us" and the children's bill of rights. At the bottom of her mission page is the link to the article in Glamour.
Like I said, I was moved to tears with her story and wrote to her. She emailed me back before morning! I would like all of my friends to read her story and keep her in your prayers. I will do everything in my power to spread her story, she needs all the support and encouragement she can get.

Total time? a few hours of putting juice can curlers in hair at night,

sleeping in bed with pillows build around your birdcage head, getting up

a few hours early to tease/shape/smooth and spray the BIG DOO!

Fast forward a bit to 1971...same BIG juice can rollers but THEN...

(remember NO blow dryers, curling or flat irons back then).....put your head on

an ironing board and be at the mercy of a friend....to IRON your hair straight!

What were we thinking?

A challenge is no biggie for me.

When someone challenges me, and I mean in any way, shape or form,

my heartbeats get rapid, I get pink cheeks and fishbowl eyes!

Not always wise.

However, I thought I'd challenge everyone this month

to do something each day that scares you and share it here in

the comment section. I will share "some" of mine.

This isn't about taking foolish or risky behavior.

It's about pushing yourself to a higher level. Doing positive things that

you think you can't do.

How can we can push ourselves to take risks--

to do things we might fail or even suck at

(and be hopelessly embarrased by the attempt)?

how mean kids can be to each other.

THANK you for emails and messages of prayers and good thoughts.

Many have been answered. Thoughts and wishes have arrived as realities.

When you accept the fact that you don't know what to do or where to turn,

you have to ask for help, something I'm not good at! I've asked for help, I've

cried and let people see inside my heart where I put things that hurt and sting.

That was a big step for me. I don't feel weaker, I feel liberated and at peace.

Some things are out of our control and I have to sit back

and let the Universe sort it out and handle it. I am finding peace.

A friend sent this to me.

There is enormous power in peace. Worry wastes time, resentment destroys effectiveness and anxiety drains energy.

Peace comes easily and naturally when you stop fighting against what is.

Accept the reality of this moment!

Peace is what you find when you let go of everything else. Peace requires no real effort other than the realization that you already have it.

Beneath the noise, beneath the chatter, there is beauty, and there is peace. Visualize your concerns as moving quickly away from you, until they disappear into nothingness.
